Success Story

Ms.Gonzalez: New Milestones and a Brighter Tomorrow

Ms. Gonzalez was admitted to Vista Specialty Hospital of La Mirada in December 2025 after being transferred from PIH Health Downey Hospital. Upon arrival, she required intensive care and was placed directly in the ICU, where she was intubated and supported by a ventilator. During this time, she was evaluated and began bedside exercises to help prevent complications such as muscle atrophy, pressure sores, and joint contractures.

Over the following weeks, her condition improved. She was successfully extubated and later transferred to the Medical Surgical floor. After another evaluation by the rehabilitation team, she began additional therapies, including an out-of-bed program that allowed her to sit in the lobby with her family, which helped improve her overall wellbeing. She was also evaluated by Speech Therapy and started a program that enabled her to safely resume eating meals.

Once her physicians determined she was medically stable, Ms. Gonzalez was discharged home with family support and physician follow up. She described her stay at Vista Specialty Hospital La Mirada as a positive experience, saying, “I like everyone. Everybody was helpful and nice, and they explained everything consistently.” When asked if she would recommend the hospital to others, she replied, “Of course,” with a big smile.

Ms. Gonzalez’s recovery journey was not easy, but with the support of her doctors, nurses, and therapists, she has been able to move forward in her healing and is steadily reaching new milestones.
